The UCLA Amgen Scholars Program offers hands-on research experience working in the labs of distinguished UCLA faculty members. Students are matched with faculty mentors and work as members of their mentors' research groups for 10 weeks.

In addition to taking part in intensive laboratory research, students attend weekly seminars where they learn about the research of invited faculty speakers. They also attend workshops that focus on successful graduate school applications and interviews, preparing research presentations, and GRE test preparation as well as career opportunities in the sciences. Students participate in program-sponsored social activities where they can explore the greater Los Angeles area with other summer researchers. They also work closely with scientific writing instructors so that at the conclusion of the program students they can submit a top quality research paper. They also give two poster presentations of their summer research project at special research symposia.

Upon completion of the UCLA Amgen Scholars Program, students are better prepared and motivated to attend graduate school and pursue research careers.
